Couple of Incidents from Last Week M62 westbound ,RTC and Bowling Park Funfair Ride, Bradford

A  car crashed into a motorway crash barrier before rolling onto its roof 
and back onto its wheels. 

Firefighters from Batley and Cleckheaton were called to the scene of the crash on the M62 Westbound between junction 27 and 26 at 7.10pm on Tuesday 23rd June 2015.

The male driver, who is in his early 30s, was freed by firefighters. The roof of the car had to be removed and the casualty then removed on a spinal board and put into an awaiting ambulance, before being taken to 
hospital. He was conscious and breathing at the scene throughout the operation. One lane of the Westbound carriageway was closed whilst the operation to free the driver was undertaken.

On Friday 26th June at around 20:55 fire crews attended an incident involving a ride at the Bowling Park Funfair just off Bowling Park Drive in West Bowling, Bradford. 

This is a travelling funfair and not a permanent site. It had been reported that some people were trapped on the ride, but they had been released by the time fire crews arrived. There was a large Police presence at the scene also. The full details of what actually occurred are not apparent at this time.

Fire Crews called to derelict Southgate building in Elland.

Crews from Halifax and Raistrick attended the fire at 03:55am this morning (21/06/2015). When crews arrived flames were coming through the roof of the 2 storey derelict building.

The fire was in the former Tom Chambers Ltd. premises on Church Street / Westgate in the town. Fire crews used an aerial appliance to reach the roof of the property whilst crews went inside to deal with the fire. A fire investigation into the cause has been started.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire Service said that the fire had caused some structural damage to the building. Crews left the scene at around 11:00am after damping down hot spots in the roof area.

Tyres on Fire, Leeds Road, Bradford. Homes evacuated.

Residents Evacuated During Tyre Dump Fire, Leeds Road in Bradford.

A planned waste Tyre disposal site on Leeds Road, Bradford was ablaze last night as firefighters from around the city were called to tackle the flames. The  Fire service were called at around 10:40 pm (19/06/2015) to reports of a fire on Leeds Road initially thinking that the building of  a company called Flexiform was involved,  along with tyres in an open yard. during the initial stages water supplies appeared to be an issue with shortage of pressure from Hydrants around the site.

Nearby homes were evacuated due to the intense heat from the flames and a large smoke plume was given off covering the area.

Water was brought in from some distance as crews used Both hand held jets along with Ground monitors. The aerial appliance from Leeds was required to protect the surrounding properties using a jet from an unmanned cage. 



Motor vehicles parked near to the fire were removed to prevent further damage to them and extra risk to the firefighters. There was easy access to the site which were once Tram sheds owned by Bradford City Transport (That was). The site is also used for car parking, a hand car wash along with the tyre companies of Zee Tyres and Jacks Tyres.

There were some goods vehicles involved, situated well into the compound and have been destroyed.

The company Flexiform have been affected by water damage and a special crew from Mirfield fire station were brought in to deal with salvage work as water run off had entered their building, indicating the substantial amount of water that had been used to stop the fire.

Fire crews had to move the unaffected tyres by hand to prevent further fire spread. This was time consuming and very demanding work for the crews

Crowds gathered to watch as Police closed Leeds Rd. to allow firefighters park there appliances as required. 

Both the environmental agency and council visited the site with damping down continuing today.

Residents have been allowed to return to there homes. A  local resident, living only yards from the fire and one of those evcuated last night has fought to have the dump removed for some time. Investigations into the fire will be undertaken to establish the cause of the fire.

Altogether seven fire appliances were at the scene from, Bradford, Idle, Shipley,  Bingley, Odsal, Fairweather Green, Stanningley, Leeds and Mirfield.

Bird Rescued by Firefighter at Wilko Huddersfield

One appliance in attendance at Wilko's store on New Street in Huddersfield  yesterday (17/06/2015)


The crew attended a bird trapped in netting on a second floor level on the outside of the building. People watched as the rescue was carried out with firefighters using a ladder to reach the stricken animal.


Man arrested for Arson after Sunnyside Garage, Greetland Fire

A 20 year old male has been arrested following the fire on Wednesday. It's thought that rubbish was set alight near to the scene causing the fire described the owner. Fire investigators are looking into the cause.

Fire crews were called just after 7pm on (17/06/2015). The scene of the fire on Saddleworth Road, Greetland was clearly visible and smoke from the fire could be seen from as far away as Bradford. 

The fire proved to be an incident involving a large goods vehicle containing tyres to the rear of the Sunnyside garage premises on Saddleworth Road.

The male who has not been named has now been released on police bail.

Persons feared trapped in Derelict Building Fire, Spen Lane, Gomersal


Fire crews attended the old Maccess site on Nibshaw Lane off Spen lane at Gomersal this evening. Smoke could be seen from the roof of the building as parts, some bitumen covered were ablaze. Crews from Batley, Brighouse, Dewsbury, Odsal and the CARP from Bradford attended the scene. 


Initial reports were that children might be inside the building, but a search proved that nobody was inside the property. The 2 storey building measures approx 30m x 30m and 3 Large jets, 2 Hosereels and 4 Breathing apparatus were used, this along with the CARP to tackle the fire from above.


Police cordoned off the area closing Spen Lane with diversions in place. 





This is the third or fourth time that this derelict building has been alight, the last time in December 2013 where a similar attendance to today's fire was needed to control it. Local residents would prefer to see the building demolished.

Early Morning House Fire in Springmill Street, West Bowling, Bradford

The house on Springmill Street in Bradford was well alight when crews arrived just after 05:45hrs this morning. Houses around the back to back property were badly smoke logged and four appliances were called in to tackle the fire.

Crews used Hosereel jets and Breathing apparatus with Positive Pressure ventilation fans to tackle the blaze.
The fire service was unsure during the early stages whether or not the property was occupied, but after a search inside the property nobody was found to be inside the house. 

Fire crews attended from Odsal, Bradford and Fairweather Green.
No persons were injured in the incident and fire examiners are investigating the cause.

Cannabis factory causes Royal Pub Blaze in Armley Leeds



Fire crews were called to the Royal Public House in Town Street, Armley, last night just after 10pm (10/06/2015). This was a building fire involving the attic of the pub. Drinkers were evacuated as firefighters tackle the fire.

Fire crews attended from Leeds, Hunslet, Stanningley and Stanks fire stations, making this a 4 pump incident, with an extra appliance being required for breathing apparatus wearers. In total 1 large jet, 2 Hosereel jets, 4  Breathing apparatus sets and a the Aerial appliance from leeds were used.

Surrounding roads were closed whilst the fire was dealt with, parts of which were still sealed off this morning as Police and Fire investigators examined the scene. It has been revealed that a cannabis farm in the attic was the cause of the fire with it's electrical system being the centre of the investigation.
No one has been injured in the fire.
